The current owner of Mačkov podrum (Tomcat's Cellar) winery, Mr Sava Jojić, worked hard in order to apply know-how of his ancestors famed as vine-growers and wine-makers in the region of Irig (a town on the slopes of Mt. Fruška Gora). Combining the tradition and knowledge accumulated over generations, a cellar has sprung up with 25 hectares of vineyards at the sun-drenched southern slopes of Mt. Fruška Gora, at an altitude ranging between 280 and 320 meters above sea-level.

According to information gathered from the owner of the winery, 50 hectares of new vineyards are still in preparation, so in the near future we may expect that the winery will further expand its selection of wine and  further add new vine varieties.

The winery takes great pride in Portugizer (Blauer Portugieser) - a nouveau wine harvested from vine variety Blauer Portugieser, which was formerly quite common in vineyards of Mt. Fruška Gora. Nowadays, this grape variety is almost extinct from Serbian vineyards. However, Mačkov podrum winery is doing its best to restore the old glory and fame of this wine. In Mačkov podrum winery, this wine is made by the method of "beaujolais nouveau" , which means grapes were harvested in August, then whole berry fermentation follows (carbonic maceration). Thus, already in November, one may taste this nouveau (vin de primeur). And as the tradition has it in France, Czech republic and the USA, Mačkov podrum winery is also releasing its Portugieser for sale on the Portugieser Nouveau Days in Novi sad, which take place on the third Thursday of November.

The winery was named after its family crest (coat of arms), or as it's commonly known in the region of Srem, "Ein Spitzname" of the family- the Tomcat.  The following grape varieties are grown in vineyards of Mačkov podrum winery: chardonnay, gewurztraminer, rheinriesling, sauvignon blanc, merlot, blauer portugieser, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon.
