At the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad on June 10th, starting at 5 p.m., winemakers and admirers of Grašac, a regional grape variety that is deeply rooted in the winemaking tradition of the Danube region, will gather together. Grašac, Graševina, Welsh Riesling, Laški Riesling, Olasz Riesling - there are many local names for this grape variety, and the present experts and wine lovers will be able to explore the potential of this variety and its local distinctive features on the terrace of the fortress overlooking Novi Sad at the first edition of the Grašac Festival.

At the first edition of Grašac festival, more than 30 wineries producing wines from this variety will be presented.

Grašac is deeply rooted in the winemaking tradition of the former Austria-Hungarian Empire. In Serbia and Croatia, it is the most common grape variety in vineyards. Grašac has been present on Fruška Gora for centuries, and at the same time, the first written record of the name of the variety comes from the famous Volny herbarium, which was created and is still kept in the town of Sremski Karlovci.
In addition to the festival, a conference on Grašac is planned as well as an international GROW du Monde wine competition. The present wine experts will have the opportunity to visit the vineyards and wineries of Fruška Gora and on the spot get to know the terroir in which Grašac shows outstanding results.
