TOPLICA

Toplica wine region extends across the basin of the Toplica River and its tributaries, and consists of three sub-regions: Prokuplje, Jugbogdanovac and Žitoradja.

Based on 2012 data, there are 765 ha of vineyards in Toplica wine region, with the largest areas under the vineyards located in the municipality of Žitoradja. The vineyards are situated on altitudes ranging from 250 to 400 meters, at moderately steep to gentle slopes of terrain.

Soil: The predominant soil types are Vertisol and Cambisol, whilst Fluvisol and other types of soil can occasionally be found.

The moderating factor affecting the local microclimate are the mountains (Veliki Jastrebac 1492m, Mali Jastrebac 946m, Vidojevica 1155m, Pasjača 901m) that shelter Toplica from extremely hot and cold air currents from the north and the south.

Grape Producers: In this region, 5,610 households own vineyards. The largest number of vinegrowers is located in the municipality of Prokuplje.

Varieties: Prokupac, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Marselan, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Gamay
