Local media in the south of France have announced news that has been going round in Provence for some time already: Svetozar Janevski, the owner of Macedonian Tikveš winery, is in the process of buying a winery, an 18th-century castle and 60 hectares of vineyards in Bollène, which have been put on sale for the price of 3.5 million EUR. It is speculated that the new owner plans to modernize production, restore vineyards and start production of premium wines.
The castle and winery Chateau de Gourdon were previously a family estate that was acquired by two winemakers, a mother and a daughter in 2006. Otherwise, the history of the property goes back to the 18th century. The first vineyards on the estate were planted in 1870 and the wine cellar has been rebuilt and expanded several times: in the beginning of the 20th century, then prior to the Second World War, and eventually in 1960s.
Most of the vineyard plots are located within the Cotes du Rhone Villages appelation. The varieties found in the vineyards are primarily Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Grenache Blanc, Cinsault.
