ŠUMADIJA WINES IN BORDEAUX

cite_du_vin

Bearing in mind the status of the city of Bordeaux (France) as the world's wine capital, a few years ago the decision was made to erect there the first wine theme park which will host the World Wine Museum. Opening ceremony of the " Wine City", originally called "La Cité du Vin",  was scheduled on June 1st, 2016 with a fanfare of publicity. The opening ceremony was attended by the French President, Mr Francois Hollande. Although there are other wine museums around the world such as the California Wine Museum in the United States, Le Hameau Duboeuf in France and Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum in Greece, this museum in Bordeaux is definitely the most monumental building in the world with a very wide coverage of topics related to wine and wine culture. Expecting to attract more than 450,000 visitors a year, over 85 million EUR were invested in this complex. Its content takes a comprehensive look at wine from the perspective of numerous cultures, civilization and across centuries. The building itself is architecturally designed so that it creates an impression of passing through wine in the glass, because "the horizontal and vertical lines are connected in a single continuous movement," says Sylvie Cazes, president of the Foundation for the wine culture and civilization, which financed the project.

What you may expect to see at "La Cite du Vin" is a totally immersive and hard-to-describe sensory approach within 20 thematic areas. There are a variety of screenings, presentations of wine regions, wine cellar, wine tasting run by leading experts, vineyard tours, the opportunity to participate in the technological process of wine production. The contents of the museum represent wine regions from all continents, as well as scientific, historical and cultural heritage related to wine. Signs in the museum are presented in three languages, expert guides offer assistance in eight languages, which means that you can benefit from asking advice from more than 100 experts who are at your disposal while touring all 10 floors of the museum, and to your own pace. I rest assured that here you will not need any wine "Roller Coaster" ride or a fountain of wine to help reinforce the impression.

Šumadija at La Cité du Vin

As many as 21 wine labels from Šumadija are included in the permanent exhibition of the World Wine Museum in Bordeaux. As stated by Božidar Aleksandrović, the president of the Šumadija Winemakers' Association, who attended the opening ceremony, nine wineries from this region are part of the permanent exhibition. Most wineries which present their wine labels at this global venue are still on the rise and setting foot in the Serbian market. World Wine Museum visitors will have an opportunity to learn about Šumadija wineries such as Royal Winery, Aleksandrović Winery, Radovanović Winery, Despotika, Arsenijevic, Art Wine, Stari Hrast (Old Oak-tree), Rogan and DeLena. Wines from these wineries are a part of the permanent exhibition thanks to results earned at the most prestigious competitions. "This building spreads over 13,000 square meters and it is estimated that during the first year it will attract half a million tourists, out of six million visitors in total who visit Bordeaux annually. It is a great honor to be a part of this world exhibition as a region which has hardly been noticed in the world of winemaking until recently."- says Božidar Aleksandrović.
