On May 22nd, 2021, the beautiful Principovac estate in the immediate vicinity of Ilok and the Croatian-Serbian border attracted numerous wine lovers and fans of Traminer variety. The organizers of the third edition of "Traminer Festival" made an effort to turn this event definitely into the regional wine event featuring this grape variety.
The prelude to this festival was the biggest Croatian wine competition focusing exclusively on Traminer wines. The competition was held in Zagreb and the tasting panel awarded the best Traminers among 87 samples from a belt ranging from Jastrebarsko to Ilok.
Croatian wine writer and journalist Ivo Kozarčanin presented to visitors of Traminer Festival in Ilok the awarded Traminer wines with score higher than 95 points at the above-mentioned competition.
Rosamal Traminac 2015 - Papak wines - Local wine label from Ilok, so from the very beginning we are on the local soil. The vineyards of Papak winery are located on Radoško Brdo, which essentially represents slopes of Fruška Gora that descend towards the Danube. A dry wine that has entirely preserved its freshness and acidity during maturation. This is worth emphasizing even more, taking into account that wines made from Traminer variety are generally characterized by low acidity. Ripe, developed Traminer, well-preserved aromas. Complex, multi-layered, it evolves in the glass and reveals a wealth of aromas over time.
Traminac Mirisavi 2009 - Enjingi - Semi-dry wine, developed aromas of roasted almonds, honey, propolis, overripe pears, hay, linden flowers, chamomile tea on the nose. Persistent impression on the palate, full of character. Flavors of yellow stone fruit, ripe apple, herbs, chamomile, honey. Alcohols gives the wine a firmer structure but remains fully integrated.
Mirisavi Traminac Suza Baranje 2019 - Kolar - Traminer that carries a dose of elegance in its aromatic profile, a good example of how Traminer wines can avoid the transition to banality. Wonderfully structured in the mouth, layered, lush, yellow stone fruit, tropical fruit, honey, floral notes, long finish.
Traminac Izborna berba 2016 - Trs - Semi-sweet Traminer with lush aromatic profile, ripe yellow fruit, hazelnut, almond, apricot, fig, honey. Acidity adds to wine's vivacity. Rich finish.
Mirisavi Traminac izborne berbe prosušenih bobica 2013 - Vinarija Miličević - Finally, we have the best rated wine (96.66 points) and the best wine in the category of predicate wines poured into glasses. Despite more than 140g of residual sugar, the wine exudes exceptional freshness. The wine doesn't seem sticky, sluggish on the palate owing to fine acidity. An explosion of flavors on the palate. Exceptional wine, certainly the best wine of the event available for tasting at the festival at Principovac estate.
