At this year's edition of The Balkans International Wine Competition (BIWC), a special award for "Wine Personality of the Year in the Balkans" will be presented for the first time for demonstrated long-term contribution to the promotion of Balkans wines, local grape varieties and wine culture. The laureate will receive a plaque at a special Gala dinner, during which we will find out the winners of the "Best of Show" award for each of the Balkan countries at the BIWC competition, which takes place from June 2nd to June 4th in Skopje (North Macedonia).

Due to the record number of samples that arrived at the competition, the jury will for the first time include 18 members, well-reputed wine experts from 10 countries.

For a few more days, it is possible for wineries from the Balkans to register their wines for the competition. All the winners and the name of the winery that won the Grand Trophy will be announced at the festival part of the BIWCF. Traditionally, the festival is held in an open-air venue "Wine City" in front of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia (Bulgaria) from June 17th to June 19th, 2021.

"There are only a few days left until the start of the 10th anniversary edition of The Balkans International Wine Competition & Festival (BIWCF). The whole team behind this competition is happy because we have achieved a lot during those 10 years of existence. Balkans wines have come to the fore, and famous names like Jancis Robinson MW define them as the next big thing in the wine world. Obviously, over the last 10 years, we have witnessed growth in the quality of wine from the Balkan countries. We are very excited about it and can't wait to find out who will be winners of the Grand Trophy and individual trophies in each of the categories. All colleagues and wine lovers from the Balkans can expect a very rich program of this year's event, reveals Galina Niforou, director of BIWCF.

Registration of wines for the competition is possible until May 21st, 2021.
