MEDITERANEO FESTIVAL - BELGRADE 24.11.2012 - 25.11.2012

During the weekend, on 24th and 25th November, 2012, the refurbished hotel Metropol (address: Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra 69, Belgrade) will be the venue of the 3rd Mediteraneo festival of wine, gastronomy and wine tourism. In case you had opportunity to attend some of previous festivals, then you are probably familiar with the concept of Mediteraneo festival: to bring together entire wine, gastro and tourist offer of this part of the Mediterranean. Organizers wish to inform and educate visitors, so exhibitions of wine and delicacies from Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro and other countries of the region are accompanied with culinary workshops, wine Masterclass workshops and lectures dealing with topics of wine tourism and vinegrowing.

Judging from the announced programme, Mediteraneo has recuperated from initial weaknesses and evolved into an important regional festival which is a meeting point for the most influential regional exhibitors and experts, but also brought to Belgrade world-known experts.

If you decide to spend the weekend at Mediteraneo festival, you will have an opportunity to taste exhibited wines, cheese, prosciutto, olive oil and other delicacies and attend some of the workshops.

Daily ticket costs 500 dinars, and the ticket price also includes a wine tasting glass. The ticket for both festival days costs 800 dinars.

Some Mediteraneo festival stars who will give specialized workshops or lectures include:

- CAROLINE GILBY –  Master of Wine, wine writer, consultant, WSET lecturer, specialized in: wines of Central and East Europe

-CHRISTY CANTERBURY – Master of Wine, wine writer, consultant, jury member at numerous wine competitions, specialized in: wines of Italy and grape variety Pinot Noir

-IGOR LUKOVIĆ – sommelier, President of the Sommeliers' Association of Vojvodina, editor-in-chief of Wine & Fine magazine

-ROBERT GORJAK – wine writer, author of Slovenian Wine Guide 2012, jury member at numerous Slovenian and international competitions, contributor for The Oxford Companion to Wine and The World Atlas of Wine.

Concerning lectures and workshops, we want to recommend a lecture “Balkan triangle: Vranac, Plavac and Prokupac” which will be given by Igor Luković as well as a lecture "Current situation and conditions for further development of vinegrowing in Serbia" given by Prof. dr. Dragoljub Žunić.

We would also like to draw your attention to a series of lectures on a popular topic: wine tourism of Serbia and attempts to create a symbiosis of wine industry and Serbian tourist offer in order to create a recognizable brand.

Another indicator that Mediteraneo Festival has turned into an important regional event is the exclusive workshop “Our wines from Manhattan” where the parallel tasting of Malvazija and Tamjanika will be done – a true regional wine derby for all lovers and admirers of these grape varieties.
