The company "Serbian Wine", under the auspices of  the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Serbia, is organizing for the third time The Serbian Wine Festival at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belgrade (address: Vladimir Popovic 10, Novi Beograd) on the 24th and 25th October, 2014 from 15h-22h. Beside having an opportunity to taste selected wines from Serbian wineries, you will also find out who the winners are in the competition for the best Serbian wine. This competition is significant because the wineries from Serbia are given an opportunity to have their wines tasted and evaluated by wine experts from abroad. This year, the competition jury panel is chaired by the President of the jury, Mr Vladimir Puškaš, PhD. Other members of the jury are:

1. Frederica Bonello from Italy (sensory analysis lecturer at the National Organization of Wine Tasters (ONAV) and the panel leader for sensory evaluation of wine at the Enology Research Center, Asti);

2. Darinko Ribolica from Slovenia (enologist with grade III WSET course, the jury member at Chardonnay du Monde France,  International oenological competition Italy, Vino Ljubljana, Slovenia Wine Competition);

3. Tonelli Stefano from Italy (oenologist, winemaker, lecturer on sensory analysis and connoisseur of Serbian wines);

4. Helmut Gangl from Austria (oenologist, winemaker, jury member at AWC, Mundus Vini, consultant of large American wineries);

5. dr.sc Irena Budić-year from Croatia ( oenologist, jury member and assessor at the European championships, PhD and Research Fellow, Head of the Oenology Laboratory of the Institute for Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation in Split

The competition involved 27 wineries from Serbia with 115 wine labels. The results of the evaluation and the winners will be officially announced at the festival on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 16h.

Although the competition is held in accordance with OIV rules (International Organisation of Vine and Wine), the organizers of the competition this year haven't applied for official support and auspices of the OIV organization. The table below shows a list of wine competitions which are held according to the official OIV standards and these have received green light from OIV in 2014 (source: official website OIV). We hope that in the coming period, the organizers of the Serbian competition shall also apply for OIV support in organizing the wine event and competition for the best wine of Serbia because it will bring added value to the competition, but the organizers will also reduce the risk of legal sanctions due to unauthorized use of abbreviation and name of OIV organization (as set out in Article 2 of the Decision OIV / Concours 332A / 2009). It is worth mentioning that the 2013 competition for the best Serbian wine was held in the presence of OIV observer Guido Baldeschi, in accordance with the rules of the OIV.
