With the aim of growing into a traditional event, Villány wine region in Hungary will organize an international Cabernet Franc wine competition for the first time this year. So far, Villány wine region has hosted six events focused on this variety. The Franc & Franc conference provided an opportunity for the most important world regions of the New and Old World, which are recognized for their Cabernet Franc wines, to present themselves and show their wines more closely.

This year, the organizers decided to launch an international wine competition as a supplement to the annual program under the name Franc & Franc. The idea is that the Cabernet Franc wine competition takes place every second year. The organizers hope that this initiative will not only raise awareness of the qualities of Cabernet Franc, but also promote and develop new partnerships and cross-border cooperation between different wine regions from around the world.

Organizers

The organizers of Franc Du Monde competition are the Municipal Council of Villány wine region, the Regional Development Non-Profit Organization of Tenkes wine region and Villány-Siklos Wine Route Association.

Competition rules

Varietal Cabernet Franc wines, blends and archive Cabernet Franc wines from Europe and other continents can participate in the wine competition.

The wine competition will be held for the first time on June 10th, 2022 in Siklos Castle. International wine experts and representatives of the wine media, as well as Hungarian wine experts and journalists, will participate as the jury members.

Wines in the following categories will participate in the competition:

classic: Cabernet Franc varietal wines with at least 9% alcohol

premium: Cabernet Franc varietal wines aged at least 12 months in oak barrels and with at least 12.5% alcohol

aged wines: Cabernet Franc wines aged for at least 10 years (at the 2022 wine competition, this category includes wines from the 2012 vintage and older)

blends: blends containing at least 70% Cabernet Franc.

Registration fee for participation in the competition: 60 EUR + VAT
