Calendar system is inevitably linked to human civilization. Ever since the Bronze Age, people have been trying to record events, primarily in order to be able to understand changes in the nature and plan agricultural work. For this purpose, the first calendars were created, either lunar or solar. Then, people started recording important dates related to certain magical or ritual practices. Later on, they were transformed into dates with religious symbolism. Dates relevant for the nation or state were also added. And finally, dates that are important for an individual or a family ... As a result, the calendar has become an inseparable companion of mankind.

Starting from this year, Prokupac Day, the feast of Serbian local variety, will be celebrated on 14th October. This is the first time ever that a grape variety from the Balkans was assigned an international grape day.
These dates can be simply understood as an invitation to drink wine from a particular grape variety. They are celebrated everywhere. Indeed, these grape days are a great tool to promote a particular variety and get great feedback from the wine loving crowd. They contribute to popularization of certain varieties and certainly promote vinodiversity.
